Gulkand - Great way to beat the heat

Gulkand is made with red roses and sugar/honey added for sweetening it.

Benefits:

  1. Add a tsp of Gulkand to cold water and sip, it will help you stay cool, hydrated and keep skin problems at bay.

  2. It can also be added to milk-shake, thick-cream and ice-cream to enhance flavour and get cooling benefits.

  3. Consuming Gulkand helps relieve acidity and mouth sores.

  4. Gulkand also provides relief in case of heat-stroke.

  5. It can be added to Paan leaf and chewed after meal.


Get the flower power, super easy way.

You need:

  1. Rose flowers

  2. Cane sugar/Honey

  3. A glass jar

Method: Pick flowers in early morning hours when they are full of fragrance/buy fresh in morning.

Separate petals from rose-hips and spread them out in a tray in shade. Gently pick the petals and place them to a large bowl.

Add sugar/honey and crush petals and sugar with hands. Place them in a glass jar and keep in sun for 5-6 hrs daily for a week. It will be ready to eat then.

Prepare in small batches for fresh flavours. Ratio of sugar and rose petals 1:1.


Given its many benefits and uses, Gulkand is a must have kitchen staple in summer season.
